Job Search Do’s and Don’ts

5th March 2018

Your job search can be a time consuming process resulting in a lot of work, so here are some job search do’s and don’ts to help you in your search for work.

DO: Give an up to date CV with the right contact details. You should tailor your CV to each role you apply for. If the employer sees your experience and skills as relevant this will give you more of a chance to get to the interview stage.

DON’T: Apply for every job you come across, instead you should fully research what you want from your role. By applying in mass you will find that you are less likely to secure those all-important interviews.

DO: Look at what is most important to you when looking for a new role. Are you looking for a certain salary, or is location more important to you? Do your research and think about these things so you can guarantee you are looking in the right places for the role. If you are unsure about the role you are going for, you may not be able to sell yourself when it comes to going to the interview and you may find that you are wasting time.

DO: Look at your social media. Many job seekers make the mistake of having inappropriate content displayed online. Employers have been checking social media for years! Consider changing your privacy settings and keep your social media employer friendly. Remember your social media is an additional representation of yourself!

DON’T: Go to an interview without researching the role. Once you apply for a role it may move quicker than anticipated. By doing your research you can feel confident you have done all you can do to get the role you are going for.

DO: Include key accomplishments on your CV.

DON’T: Leave your current role before you have secured a new one.

DO: Be proactive, chase and follow up after an interview. This will show that you are keen to get the role. Take a look at our 5 steps to take after an interview.
