How to Avoid Recruitment Scams

7th June 2024

A hot topic currently in the world of recruitment is the sad fact that some criminal groups have been posing as recruitment agencies in order to gain people’s personal data, which could potentially be used to steal your identity.

At Lawrence Dean Recruitment there has been no breach of our data, and any records we hold remain secure. However, this is an important topic that we should all be aware of and for that reason, we have collated this short guide to give you some hints and tips to make sure you remain safe in your search for work with us or any other recruitment agency.

Check the Email Address

Any emails from us will only come from an email address ending @lawrencedeanrecruitment.co.uk, we never use outlook.com, gmail.com or similar email addresses. This would be true for most reputable agencies.

Look at Websites and Social Media

At Lawrence Dean we are very transparent about who we are. Our photos are all on our website and our own LinkedIn profiles. If you are ever asked to meet one of us in person and something feels off, please double check that the person is who they say they are by looking at our website www.lawrencedeanrecruitment.co.uk. This is true for most reputable agencies - if you are speaking to a recruiter for the first time check out their website and also look them up on LinkedIn. Missing profile pictures, a real lack of activity, or a no connection to the agency they claim to work for should be seen as red flags. Also remember to check a website's legitimacy by checking the site security and for any formatting mistakes in the URL.

Don't Make Payments

No reputable agency will ever charge you to work with them as a job seeker. We only need your Bank Details and National Insurance number to payroll you if you are registering with us for temporary work. If you are looking for permanent work only, we will never ask for these.

Double check with a call

If you are called by a recruiter and something feels off, never be afraid to say you will call back and end the call. Our office number is 01438 584700 and you can call any time to speak to the team if you are concerned about anything. All reputable agencies will have a main office number you can call directly on their website.
